World Obstacle approved WTM as the official World Championships for 24-hour Obstacle Course Racing
Lausanne, Switzerland, 9 June\2022 – Tough Mudder, the global leader in obstacle course adventures, and World Obstacle today announced that World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) has been sanctioned as the 24-Hour OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) World Championships. The event will take place in Atmore, Alabama, USA on Nov. 12 – 13, 2022, and will bring together some of the world’s top athletes for a weekend of competition during which world records will be established and world champions will be crowned.
First held in 2011, World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) is widely regarded as the premier international set-time Obstacle Course Race. Individuals and teams compete on a 5-mile (8km) loop course with 12 iconic Tough Mudder Obstacles to accumulate the greatest distance in 24-hours.
“World’s Toughest Mudder is the most extreme 24-hour obstacle course on the planet, and we’re thrilled to host the 24-Hour OCR World Championships at our Gulf Coast event,” Tough Mudder CEO Giles Chater. “As the first sanctioned World Championships of its type, this event will provide an opportunity for the world’s top athletes to set the bar for years to come, whilst enjoying the community, camaraderie and classic Tough Mudder ‘twists’ that make this event truly unique.”
“World Obstacle is thrilled that the WTM is joining the global system of world level events for obstacle sports.” said FISO President Ian Adamson. “Athletes from our member federations in 110 countries can join thousands of other competitors and represent on their national teams at this important championship. Timing is perfect considering the recent news regarding an obstacle event being tested for inclusion on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program.”
The 24-Hour OCR World Championships will take place as part of the World’s Toughest Mudder 2022 event. Athletes competing for podium positions, prize money, and world records at the championship event can register through Tough Mudder and must qualify as contenders in accordance with World’s Toughest Mudder rules.
