2024 DUBAI WORLD OBSTACLE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Dubai World Obstacle Championships (details here) is hosted by Dubai Police and Dubai Sports Council. The event is sanctioned and supported by World Obstacle and provides awards and prize money for elite national teams, athletes qualified by member federations of World Obstacle. Open categories are provided for age groups and participants in open/journeyman categories. 500,000 Dirham ($136,000) prize purse will be awarded to elite national team athletes in the International Standard OCR 100m (individual women and men), 1,500m (individual women and men youth), 2,500m (individual women and men) and International Distance 5,000 m (individual women and men & government.) The 5,000 m national team race is for elite teams of 3 in the standard cooperative format, plus teams of four (4) for government & open teams.
The OCR 100m
The OCR 100m is an international standard course recognized by Guinness with established World Records. The course was developed as a standard in 2018 and included in the 2019 and 2023 Southeast Asia Games, a multisport Games recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The venue for the 100m is the Dubai Police Officers’ Club’s headquarters in Al Jaddaf, a few minutes away from Dubai International Airport. The Police Club Stadium’s is a multi-use venue that hosts international sports events such as the Dubai Police Ramadan Games, which hosts over 6,000 athletes. With a seating capacity of 7,500, and international standard amenities for athletes and spectators, the stadium was built to promote a culture of fitness and well-being in the city.

The 2024 Dubai World Obstacle Championships are being hosted by Dubai Police Department, in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Economy and Tourism. Dubai Police which produces many international events including the UAE SWAT Challenge with over 100 teams from 70 countries, and Ramadan International Multisport Games including a wide range of team and individual sports such as athletics, traditional games, archery, and football.
Competition Rules
Competition Rules are specific to each event. Rules for competitive categories allow only one attempt for hanging obstacle. The races and competition rules are formatted to facilitate fairness, event flow, judging and eliminate back-ups at obstacles. A high level of obstacle proficiency is required and courses and are designed for completion by world level athletes in all categories.

EVENTS
100M – SPRINT
The Sprint Course is 12 standardized obstacles evenly spaced along a 2-lane 100m linear (straight line) course. Watch the following videos to see a demonstration, race in slow motion, women’s world record run and men’s world record run.
2.5 KM SHORT COURSE
The Short Course is a 2,500 m cross country style race with 20+/- obstacles. The race format and obstacles are similar to OCRWCH 2024 and OCREC 2024.
5 KM INTERNATIONAL DISTANCE
The International Distance is a 5,000 m cross country style race with up to 30 obstacles. The race format and obstacles are similar to the standard course at the OCRWCH 2024 and OCREC 2024.
5 km NATIONAL TEAM RACE
The National Team Race is on the 5,000 m course for national teams of three athletes. Athletes on a team must stay together and may assist each other through obstacles. Some obstacles require teammates to work together to overcome the obstacle. The race format and obstacles are similar to the team race at the OCRWCH 2024.
OPEN / JOURNEYMAN / AGE GROUP
There are Open categories for 100 m, 1,500 m, 2,500 m, and 5,000 m distance. These categories are for anyone to experience World Championship obstacles and requires no qualification or national federation affiliation. Complete the obstacles you want! Open categories are not subject to international competition rules. Age Group categories are subject to international competition rules.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Age Groups
Age groups are provided for all distances and award medals only, no prize money. Age group athletes compete individually and do not have to be from a national team, qualified by their national federation.
Elite
Elite athletes on a national team qualified by their national federation. Elite athletes must be 18 years old per national law in the UAE.
Age Definition
Age group category for Youth and Veteran athletes is the age of the athlete on race day. Age group category for Junior, Senior and Masters athletes is the age you are on December 31st, 2024 (the age you turn this year). An athlete who is 15 years old on race day but turns 16 on or before December 31, 2024 will race in the Youth 14/15 category. An athlete who is 59 years old on race day but turns 60 on or before December 31, 2024 will race in the Veterans category. Under Costa Rican law, athletes who turn 16 in 2024 may compete in the Standard Distance race. Athletes who are 15 years old on race day and turn 16 in 2024 may be allowed to compete in the standard distance race provided they have parental and national federation consent.
